“Vivos
Voco” (Call living!)
This canvas embodies for
painter new understanding of freedom, which moved to the new space and went out
of abutments of external election. Fevour of freedom is passed like aspiration
for perfection.
Despite, of prodamation of Ukrainian
Independence in 1991, in the life of many average citizens long – waiting
understanding of their national indepetion don’t happened. F. Dostoevsky observed
that every national culture which dreams to overcome her own second – rate
essence, she must have courage to look out of the abutments of “native chaos”.
Today the process of national revival transformed for Ukrainian into the
process of national survival. At “Vivos Voco” the painter appeals not to fall
down into the abyss of the self – destroy and extermination of our culture. F.
Nizshe said that one who fights with monsters might watch (guard), not to transform
in the monster oneself. One looks at the abysm for a long time - it will look into
to your eyes itself. How to hold on the subtle abutment, between being and
nonentity? The main idea of the painting lies in understanding of thesis that
not independence makes the nation a State, but a fight for it.
Mastering of Ukrainian icon –
painting inheritance by the artist promoted creating his own view at icon – graphic
of “Yuri – Snake - fighter” that appeared in painting. From time immemorial a character
of Saint Yuri Snake – fighter in Ukraine explained as a character of
upholder of kindness and holds prominent place not only in icon – painting art,
but in sculpture, graphic, folklore, folk songs, proverbs as well.
At composition of I. Panyok
“Vivos Voco” the portrait of the rider occupies the biggest part of the canvas.
The beauty to the picture is given by pyramidal composition that is directed to
the onlooker, which helps to accent the attention to heroic – romantic mood.
Unlimited space is underlined with the help of pronouncing spot of red – brown
raincoat, that waves and flutters at the wind behind Snake – fighter’s shoulder
creating an original oscillation in the picture. Surrealistic visions of the
author, a game with dream - alogical interpretation of space arouse real
astonishment. “He stretched an air, hung a fire, limited the shores of the sea,
strengthened the Earth, crept the fields, lifted the mountains, deepened valleys,
put the forests, opened sprints, poured out the rivers, unwrapped the sky high…”
Painter scoops his inspiration
in metaphorical thinking of Barocco period masters, after whom he makes his
allegories more sophisticated, trying to reflect abstract notions in visible subject
form. Luxury of his metaphors strikes: these are gold plate at the body of the
rider, as symbol of unconqurability, a towel symbol of space, cut bread – like
destiny etc. Liqurative language of I. Panyok is near to symbolic – visual
language of dreams that is characteristic for painter of Barocco Art and for
surrealism as well. Like from ancient dream Uspenskiy Cathedral appears, sparkling
by golden cupolas in the sky. And at the mean time from the other side of the
picture the same Cathedral, but destroyed. At this metaphor – the live history
of Ukraine:
the ancient majesty, beauty and what left after the time of totalitarism –
whole destroy and culture torn into pieces.
